UnionAI Unveils 800V SST at Silicon Valley Global Launch
On October 16, 2026, UnionAI hosted the 2026 Union AI SST Global Launch at Plug and Play Tech Center in Sunnyvale, California. More than 150 participants attended, representing hyperscalers, cloud providers, semiconductor and power electronics companies, energy storage, testing and certification, and the investment community.
The event combined the launch of UnionAI’s 800V solid-state transformer (SST) with industry presentations and a panel discussion on how power infrastructure can keep pace with AI compute deployment. Conversion efficiency, deployment speed and project economics were central themes throughout the pro
gram.
Introducing the UnionAI 800V SST
Founder and CEO Smith Qin reviewed UnionAI’s work on 800V DC technology and product development since 2022, before introducing the new SST and its intended applications.
The UnionAI SST converts medium-voltage AC power to 800V DC. It is designed to help reduce the number of conversion stages in the power delivery path from the grid to GPU servers.
The product configurations introduced at the launch provide 1.8 MW of rated power with a 6.6 kV AC input, 2.5 MW with a 10 kV AC input, and 3.3 MW with a 13.8 kV AC input, all with a common 800V DC output.
The published product specifications state a conversion efficiency above 98.5%. UnionAI also presented its modular power-unit design and deployment approaches for both new AI data centers and staged upgrades to existing facilities.
The product’s design targets compliance with applicable UL, IEC and IEEE standards for international markets.
Industry perspectives on 800V DC adoption
Guest presentations examined the technologies and validation work supporting the development of next-generation data center power systems.
Terry Li of Wolfspeed discussed silicon carbide (SiC) innovation and how advances at the semiconductor level contribute to power conversion efficiency.
Billy Qiu of TÜV SÜD addressed resilient AI data center power infrastructure from the perspective of testing and certification.
Andreas Fornwald of Texas Energy Storage Solution shared perspectives on the development of SST and 800V DC data center architectures across international markets.
Connecting power architecture with deployment economics
The panel, “Powering Vera Rubin with 800VDC and Beyond,” explored the relationship between computing demand, power infrastructure and project economics.
A central theme was extending standardized, modular approaches from GPU servers to the power systems that connect them to the grid. Participants discussed how easier integration and a “plug and play” approach could help shorten deployment cycles and support faster access to computing capacity.
The discussion also considered the role of power and cooling in making AI data centers sustainable and economically viable. As AI applications expand, the value of a power architecture needs to be assessed through both its technical performance and its implications for construction, deployment and ongoing operation.
Advancing global market engagement
At the launch, UnionAI announced that it was accepting orders worldwide for its 800V SST. Product displays and conversations with the UnionAI team gave attendees further opportunities to explore the system and its potential applications.
Headquartered in Singapore, UnionAI will continue working with customers and industry partners to advance 800V DC power solutions for AI data centers. The Silicon Valley launch marked a further step in bringing its SST technology to international customers, with a focus on efficient conversion, practical deployment and long-term operating economics.
